Find answers to some of the questions you may have regarding MaBeYO here. We’ve addressed some of the most common ones below, but if something isn’t clear feel free to contact us. We’ll be happy to assist you in any way possible.

MaBeyo is a non-profit foundation registered in the state of Georgia.

  • What types of scholarships are offered by the MaBeYO Foundation?

Primary, Secondary and, professional school students and adult re-entry students who are attending TICH college, career/technical schools, teaching credential programs, professional schools in Kenya

  • How much does it cost to apply for a scholarship?

Applying for our scholarships is completely cost-free. Only your time to fill up the forms and write up an essay.

However, please be aware of scholarship scams. Be cautious when dealing with organizations or websites that request payment, guarantee scholarships, or contact you through unsolicited mail or spam emails. Your education and future are important, so stay vigilant!

  • I am not a straight-A student or athlete. Am I still eligible?

You absolutely don’t need to be a straight-A student, athlete or have leadership experience to be eligible for our scholarships. Our scholarship geared to applicants with financial need, participation in community service, extra-curricular activities and/or work experience, and a positive review from your teachers and principles will help your cause.

  • How will my application be evaluated?

All scholarships have different criteria and different priorities. MaBeYO Staff will initially check your application for basic eligibility. Then, our scholarship selection committees will consider the information in your application, including your activities, academics, financial need, and personal statements.

  • When does our calendar cycle start?  

Our calendar year to choose candidates for the following year starts in October/November.   Please send in your application all year long but note active selections start in November.

  • How many candidates can qualify each year?

As we start the aim right now is to take 2 students in primary school, 2 students from primary school going to secondary school, and 2 at TICH College.

  •  What are my chances of receiving a scholarship?

The possibility of you receiving a scholarship depends on several factors, including how many applicants are eligible for the scholarship, how many scholarships will be awarded and how competitive the other applicants are. We strongly advise you to take your time when filling out the application, and don’t forget to give your short essay prompt answer a thorough review. Your effort will make a difference!  

Anyone can qualify even if you have special needs or are from a private institution.  This scholarship does not apply to only government institutions.

  •  What are my chances of receiving a scholarship?

The possibility of you receiving a scholarship depends on several factors, including how many applicants are eligible for the scholarship, how many scholarships will be awarded and how competitive the other applicants are. We strongly advise you to take your time when filling out the application, and don’t forget to give your short essay prompt answer a thorough review. Your effort will make a difference!

  •  If I change schools, will my scholarship be transferred to my new school?

Some of our scholarships are limited to certain schools. If you transfer schools, it might be difficult for us to match the expenses to the new school especially if it is a more expensive school.   Please notify us immediately so we can determine whether you are still eligible for your scholarship. If you are eligible, we will transfer your award to your new school.

  • Do I need to pay back my scholarship?

No, you do not need to pay back your scholarship unless you use it for purposes other than those allowed by your scholarship agreement.

  • What is the selection process?

We have a committee made up of Mama Benter's children and grandchildren that will go through all the paperwork and review your application and essay.  We will review with your teachers and principal to review your character.   We then have the Chief or a MaBeYO member visit with your family to ensure you qualify for this scholarship.

  • Who is the scholarship geared towards?

 This scholarship is geared towards orphans and kids who show promise but have no way of paying for their education.

  • What will my scholarship pay for?

Depending on the scholarship, it will pay for tuition, room and board, books, fees and/or other related educational expenses. This will be outlined in your award notification.

  • When will I be notified about the outcome of my application?

You will be notified whether you are awarded or declined a scholarship. We highly suggest applying every year, you never know! If you are declined a scholarship, you may re-apply the following year. If you are awarded a scholarship, we will notify you by June and provide more details on your next steps. Please note that we communicate primarily through email, so if you have ANY email address changes, you MUST update us at mabeyofoundation@gmail.com or info@mabeyofoundation.com .

  •  Will I be interviewed during the application process?

Yes, we will conduct interviews for most scholarships.  We will email you to schedule a 20-minute interview or will talk to you face to face when we visit with your family or caretaker.

  •  Do I have to be a resident of Kachieng County to apply for your scholarships?

Most of our awards require you to be from Kachieng County but we understand that there will be times when special situations arise.

  • Ways to Give to the Mama Benter foundation MaBeYO

As a not-for-profit organization, we are always looking for donors to support our foundation. Your support is appreciated and will educate a child who without MaBEYO would not have gone to school.
